The 22 year old - who plays golf at the Izaak Walton golf club, has played since August 2010 under the colours of Golf in France. For the little story, Rachel started to play at the young age of 8, following the footsteps of her family.  She practices everyday and in her opinion the best part of her game is ‘long game, driving and iron play.’ With a +4 handicap, her objective is to be successful and to win multiple times on tour as well as eventually gaining a place on the Womens golf hall of fame. We asked her a few questions...

240px-2009_womens_british_open_-_rachel_jennings_1In your opinion what should be the priorities of a professional golfer?

You need to practice hard, compete with passion, never give in and be a bit selfish without hurting or affecting the ones you love.

  • Describe one of your usual weeks:

My non competitive week is based on 4 hours of practice, 6 days a week, with my day off involving two hours in the gym. I also do gym work on the three other days. My practice is normally split up 30 per cent long game and 70 per cent short game.

My competitive week is 15 minutes holing short putts, 15 minutes chipping bunker play and pitching. I then hit two balls with every club in my bag on the range then I visualise my first three tee shots then hit them how I feel I want them to go, e.g. if i need to play a draw I will. I then finish off with 15 minutes pace control with my putts.

Before I practice I do 30 minutes of stretching to warm my muscles up, I then do twenty minutes cool down stretching. After I have finished playing I will practice whatever I thought went wrong in my round.

  •  What is your practice philosophy?

I always try and compete against myself, so that I can strive to get a better score each time.

  • What is your view on professional Women golfers?

The women’s game is definitely improving, the money is getting better and there is a lot of women are tour who you aspire to be like.

  •  Your recent golfing achievement:

2008: French Lady Junior Champion. England Team for World Amateur Team Championship. 2nd in the England Order of merit, 4th in the European individual.

2009: qualified for the RICOH Women’s British Open, Great Britain team for the Vagolino trophy (v the Continent of Europe). Won the Welsh U21 Strokeplay title. 2nd in the England Order of Merit.

2010: Great Britain and Ireland to for the Curtis Cup (v America). 3rd in the Scottish Strokeplay, Top qualifier in the English Amateur.

  •  What is your current sport objective?

To continually improve every year, and to win multiple times on tour

  •  With who would love to play a four ball?

Lance Armstrong, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods. My mum would caddy.

  •  Which French golf courses have you played?

Golf de Mont Griffon, Golf National and Saint Cloud

  •  Which one is your favourite?

Golf Hotel de Mont Griffon has the most amazing atmosphere and has the most challenging of golf courses; it’s a very relaxed place and an enjoyable trip for all the family.

  •  When organising a golfing break abroad, have you got a few tips?

Make sure you have insurance; never ever fly Ryan Air; easyJet are always cheaper after you have paid for everything, with Ryan Air they are a rip off.

  •  If you were a French dish, what one would you be?

A crêpe

  •  Why?

Because I have a very sweet tooth and I always have to have a crêpe when I go to France.

  •  What are your hobbies and interests outside golf?

Painting, cross stitch and reading. I love spending time with my family and watching Port Vale football club competes. I am also enjoying planning my wedding to my fiancé Chris Thornton.
