From the beginning of the 80`s, the French Golf Federation had the project to build its own golf course. We had to wait till 1990 to see the golf course inaugurated. It can be surprising when you plan to create a golf course to choose a flat and nude land but it wouldn’t be a course like any others. The objective was to create a golf stadium likely to host big events in excellent welcoming conditions and visibility for numerous visitors and Medias, particularly the television. The 139 hectares land was farmland since Louis XIV and the Versailles Palace for which he grew wheat. This choice of land allowed modelling the course to be adapted to the needs of numerous national and international championships as well as hosting the French Open.

The Golf National offers three impressive and challenging golf courses that every player will really enjoy.

‘L’Albatros’ 18-hole course (6695m, Par 72) is recognised as one of the best championship courses in Europe. Even through the course is contestant for a future ‘Ryder Cup’ it is not reserved to the only sportive ‘elite’. You will have to play various shots and you will certainly have to use all your clubs. This magnificent course blends harmoniously the ‘links’ aspect and the ‘target-course’. Between the hills you find water hazards, vast bunkers and undulated fairways. But the real difficulty of the course is the fescues on the top roughs, especially when the wind decided to join the party. The holes are franks and hazards and obstacles are never hidden.

‘L’Aigle’ 18-hole course (5961m, par 71) is great for all game levels. You walk between mounds, broom beds and high grass tufts: a little bit of Scotland in Paris! Large fairways, few bunkers and good greens allow good scoring if you are in a good day. The course is tolerant for all, fun for most people and challenging for the best ones. It is accessible to ranked players or holders of a green card. It spreads on both sides of the Villaroy’s farm. Its 18 holes allow you to express yourselves without too much risk to see your ball ending in a water or sand hazard. It is still necessary to control length and precision on this plain often windy. The colours contrast, green fairways and yellow high grass, remind the links across the channels.

The academic 9-hole ‘L’Oiselet’ course (1955m, Par 32) is neither too long nor too large but includes nearly no roughs. However, it offers all right situations for training.

The Clubhouse, set within an old Norman Stud farm benefits from wide bay windows offering guests a panoramic view of the links and the valley of the Touques. The clubhouse houses the pro shop and the bar. The bar is ideal to relax and create friendship by sharing the day’s golfing stories.

The 27-hole course, at Deauville Saint Gatien, mixes perfectly notions of calm and space. The architect Olivier Brizon, designed this course in 1988, respecting the local Nature and landscape.

With ‘La Vallée’ (the valley) course you will start by diving in the Seine river estuary to loose yourself in the Barneville forest. These technical 9 holes demand the golfers to be precise because of the different levels, the forest, the water hazards and natural water sources. The passage of the 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th holes, called by the local golfers ‘Amen Corner’ –reference to the Augusta National, are the most tricky to play.

On ‘La Bergerie’ (the sheepfold) course you will slalom between flowery roughs and large pine trees bouquets. The layout cut with the curves of the valley and is more classical, but not less technical. Every shot demands precision, length and any drive’s deviation will be followed by a creative golf shot.

As a good wine, ‘La Chapelle’ (the Chapel) course mature with the years. Its design can appear as the most demanding out of the three courses and call for a variety of shots. You will have to stay focused to avoid the pine tress borders, the ponds and the bunkers that are always well positioned in order to reach the greens well defended.

The clubhouse –a former mill dating back form the 18^th century, houses the restaurant that is opened everyday. Foodies’ lovers, golfers and non golfers will enjoy the natural environment and the warm atmosphere to discover a regional cuisine. In the heart of the Sarthe valley that is generous with forest, river and lovely countryside is laid the 27-hole course of Sablé-Solesmes and its 9-hole academic course, which the latter is a both complimentary and very specific course. The 150 hectares domain is easy accessible, only 1h15 from Paris Montparnasse and also ideally located on the Loire’s Chateaux Road.

La cascade course of the purity of a Scottish style link (9 holes, par 36, 3070 m) is very little wooded. Its name comes from the little river that plunge in cascade in the Sarthe. Be careful to the modelled of this hilly course and many bunkers.

La Foret course (9 holes, par 36, 3197 m) is a challenge for the long hitters. It is a long and technical course that borders the forest and slalom between regional trees such as birches, oaks, elm trees, ash trees, etc.

La Rivière course (9 holes, par 36, 2992 m) or spectacular water course character. The water is the main element of this scenery and is redoubtable when you get close to a green or along a fairway.

La Cognere course (9 holes, par 32, 1231 m) is a high quality academic course. It takes its name from the neighbour farm and is cut on the side of the hill. The 18-hole course (par 72, 6315 m) was designed by the architects Leonard Morandi and Donald Harradine in 1970, on a 134 acre wooded estate slightly hilly. Nimes Campagne Golf Club is laid in an enchanting environment and benefits from a favorable climate, perfect for golf.

Since its creation, the academy has trained young players who have contributed to its reputation thanks to their results. Jean Francois Remesy, twice winner of the French Open, is the most famous example.
